Always looking for technological improvements for better patient care, radiologists have embraced digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) for enhanced mammography studies. DBT use has also improved workflows by reducing false positives.

DBT has been the subject of many studies recently, providing insights into how this technology has evolved to the benefit it has proven to be today. But of note is the combination of 2D mammography with DBT, providing a conventional and modern approach, respectively, that has upped the ante on accuracy.

According to an article in MedPage Today, Dr. Jacqueline Holt, MD, the combination of 2D mammography and DBT has “significantly” lowered recall rates while improving cancer detection. False positives are decreased, which “lessens the need for additional imaging, office visits and other downstream costs.”

Dr. Holt is quoted in the article as saying, “more important are the intangible savings to the patient, such as less time off from work and less anxiety.” As more and more healthcare professionals embrace value-based care, the interest in DBT and 2D mammography as a combined method will be of greater interest.

Looking to the Future

Clinical evidence continues to stack up, proving that DBT is a superior form of imaging. For facilities continuing to embrace 2D mammography, their placement among competing providers with DBT will lag. For patients with dense breast tissue, they will only seek out providers who have the kind of technology it takes to give them an accurate assessment of their health, which will only be providers with DBT technology.

Choosing a Leading Provider of DBT Technology

If viewing medical images has been a constant struggle, consider choosing providers of imaging technology that make it simple. At OffSite Image Management, we’ve developed cloud-based and hybrid approaches to viewing medical imaging, including mammography, that address all the pain points.

We’ve developed a process called MAMMO, which we argue is the best viewing technology in the U.S. We can make such a statement because our approach provides the following processing features:

  • Reference lines between MLO and CC images
  • Tomosynthesis cine + MIP creation
  • Reference lines between MG and US
  • Mammography CAD Support of virtually any vendor

From implant blocker technology to advanced measurement and annotation tools, we’ve developed solutions that assist in making your viewing experience second to none. For more information about our approach and how you can become connected, contact us today.
